Innerleithen Cubs are the UK’s very first Golden Eagle Champions!
Innerleithen Cubs recently gathered with staff from the South of Scotland Golden Eagle Prohject at Traquair House for a fifth and final Eagle Champions session. To mark this special event, they were joined by Wild Tree Adventures who took Cubs way up high into the canopy of an old oak tree for an eagle-eyed view!
Cubs also worked hard to construct their own full-size eagle eyries and they even tested them out for size! (They were said to be “surprisingly comfortable!”). Kasia the Golden Eagle stopped by with her handler at the end of the day for a great Q & A and everyone was impressed at just how big a female golden eagle is.

BBC Landward came along to film all the days activities and it screened on BBC Scotland on Thursday 16th May, Friday 17th May and again on BBC Scotland on Monday at 7.30pm. Watch it on iPlayer.
It was a huge team effort to made this such a memorable experience for the Cubs including Traquair House, Wild Tree Adventures, Falconer Dougie McKenna, BBC Landward, the Cub Leaders and helpers, and of course all the fabulous SSGEP team!
