Discovering more amazing trees with the Woodland Trust!
Volunteering is great! On Friday I was part of a team discovering more amazing trees for the Woodland Trust’s Ancient Tree Inventory. Led by Clair McFarlan, Senior Verifier for the Ancient Tree Inventory, and an ace team of tree experts, we added 95 new records of remarkable and veteran trees including vast oaks, towering ash, multi-stemmed beech and a curious Horse Chestnut. This conker tree not only has considerable 5.45m girth, it is also creating its own clonal colony – those three ‘trees’ on the left of the photo are actually growing out of the root system, and so originate from the ‘mother’ tree – quite something. I had a really inspiring day with some lovely people, definitely learned lots and I look forward to the next great tree hunt!
